Return to Ryth

A certain Grumpy Old Troll has just discovered the treasure that is the Ryth Chronicle. It has been many months and it has occurred to me that if the Old Troll was unaware of John Van De Graaf and Len Scensny's landmark early D&D campaign then my many new readers may be awaiting similar enlightenment. If you have no idea what I'm talking about then here's the word straight from John Van De Graaf :
We got started in D&D when Gary Gygax and his wife attended a Michicon convention to peddle the very first edition of D&D rules. The very thin 3 booklet rules were so vague that I had to call Gary for many rule clarifications, and he was very helpful. We also added a lot of material, like the weapon and combat tables, because we weren't too keen on the Chainmail combat rules that D&D was based on.
Download the entire document right here and take a look:

The missing 10th installment was located and posted here:

I also did a series of Q&A's with John and Len. They can be found here:

I love sharing this with anyone who I think would be interested. I'm happy that this was created by the original writers. I appreciate the insight provided by the former players and it's awesome that you've shared that with us.

I don't mean to gush, but it's such a valuable piece of the hobby's history.
