SCENE 7 (Posted by Risus Monkey and Jose)
Wherein our story reaches its exciting conclusion.
***
Q: Does anything erupt from the spilled ichor [Unlikely]? Yes.Triumphant in his victory over the demon, it takes Nivek a moment to realize that the ichor spilled onto the floor is moving. Burly Hresstan is still battling the worm demons and Kelthas is already moving to assist him. Nobody seems to be taking notice of the unholy vermin.
Q: Is it a Swarm of Alien Insects (3) [Likely]? Yes.
"Kelthas! Hresstan! Ack! Cough!"
Fire! Damn the demon spawn, we've got to get out of here!
Looking about the room, now almost completely filled with hot smoke that burns with every breath, Nivek finds a sizeable rug fragment that has thus far escaped the flames. [Q: Is there a pitcher of water available (Unlikely)? Yes RANDOM EVENT (see below)]. He takes a miraculously unspilled bowl of ceremonial water (or would that be some other other liquid?) and douses the rug. He then wraps himself in it, runs toward his companions, and ...
Q: Can the three companions, wrapped in a temporarily fire-resistant rug, escape the melee [Somewhat likely]? Yes....bull-rushes them out of their present melee. The hideous shrieks of the sorceress, now being consumed by fire and fiends, pierce their ears as the three push through the inferno. Emerging into the stairwell, they bowl into the form of Gregos himself, now armed with sword and cuirass. A small squad of guards rush to his side with swords brandished. Their angry and confused faces are barely visible through the gathering smoke.
Q: To a stairwell [50/50]? Yes.
RANDOM EVENT: NPC Action (Uncle Gregos) Judge Pain
Hresstan struggles to calm his battle fury as he sees the hedge of drawn steel facing his companions and himself. He is reminded of their immediate peril, however, by the fierce heat that continues to build at their backs. Before he can speak, Gregos recovers from his near-fall and looks at the three swordsmen in confusion.
Q: Is Gregos aware of his wife's meddling in the occult [50/50]? Yes."I... 'tis you, the ones who were supposed to protect the boy... " He cringes as the woman above gives a last shrill scream. "That sounded like my wife up there..." The portly man trembles in rage and sadness, tears welling up in his eyes, and not only from the smoke. His henchmen begin looking more concerned than angry as the stairs begin filling up with smoke.
Q: Did he come to stop her plans[Likely]? Yes.
"By the Leviathan, man! We all die here if we stay!" The barbarian's roar draws all eyes. "So either ply your steel, or let us continue this outside!"
Q: Is the difficulty for browbeating the merchant and his squad at least 15[Likely]? YesTwo of the bravos grab Gregos and whisper hurriedly as they hustle him down the stairs. With not inconsiderable relief, the three rogues follow recklessly. Soon they all stand outside as part of a crowd who watch the Silken Veil light up the tradionally beshadowed Plaza of Dark Delights.
