Risus Lankhmar: Scene 7 (Part 4)

SCENE 7 (Posted by Eloy) 
Wherein our story reaches its exciting conclusion.

Q: when Kelthas staggers back from the Slasher's attack, does that knock a few candles over? [Unlikely]: Yes
Q: Does the room start to catch on fire [Likely]: Yes

Kelthas stumbles to the floor, knocking over a few candles and a smoking censer. Unnoticed, the wooden floor, and some velvet cushions cast on the floor ignite. The flames quickly begin to spread.

The Slasher presses the attack on Nivek, who parries furiously. Seeing that the demon's back is to him, Kelthas scrambles to regain his balance. Grabbing the saber in both hands, he rushes in a reckless charge, howling in anger and fear, to strike down in a desperate overhand slash.

RISUS: Kelthas teams up with Nivek again, and pumps his Caravan Guard cliché by 1, as well as throwing in a lucky shot. Red-cloaked Mercenary Caravan Guard (3 4) plus Lucky shot, plus Nivek's assist vs. Slasher of Phogula (4): 18 + 6 (from Nivek)= 24 vs. 12

The repulsive horse-headed demon lets out a wailing shriek as Kelthas' saber manages to cut a deep gash on its back. Greenish ichor oozes from the wound.

The demon turns on Kelthas. “You shall scream in torment for all eternity, when me and my kind rule this crude city.” The masked woman's voice again echoes the disturbing cry. Across the room, the flames rise in lurid red light, as lavish curtains catch alight.

“Now, Nivek!” Kelthas cries, falling back desperately, driven back by the furiously fast chitinous claws.

RISUS: Nivek takes over control of the team, throwing a Lucky shot into the mix as well, with Kelthas assisting. Second-Story Swordsman of Lankhmar (4) plus Lucky Shot, no sixes from Kelthas, vs. Slasher of Phogula (3): 25 vs. 3!!! Critical hit!!! 1d6 damage=5!!!

The equine monstrosity batters aside Kelthas' saber, which goes flying across the room. The Slasher howls in glee as it raises it's deadly claws to end the mercenary's life. However, Nivek the Upright leaps back into the fray! Wasp and Hornet flash in a blur of steel and the demon's head parts from it's body, greenish ichor flying.
