A part of Nivek's brain registers the cries of his companions, but he is still fixated on the site of the disintegrating dagger. What have we got ourselves into?
Nivek sheathes Hornet and snatched up the dagger that he had tossed in the fight and uses it to carefully prod the remains of the madman's blade.
Q: Is there anything that stands out about the weapon (other than the fact that's its blade dissolved) [Unlikely]? Extreme no. it looks quite ordinary now.
RANDOM EVENT: NPC Negative (Ilsbert's Aunt) Separate (From?) Good. Hmmm... have an idea, but it'll take a moment...
There doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary with the weapon now. But what about the crazed man himself? Nivek hesitates a moment and then moves to remove his golden mask.
Q: Is it Ilsbert [Very Unlikely]? Extreme yes!
A wave of shock and horror overcomes Nivek as the man under the mask is revealed to be Ilsbert himself! Suddenly nauseous, he is overcome by an urge to vomit. Afterwards, still shaking with the realization that he had killed his charge, Nivek begins to ponder the mess that he and Kelthas (and by extension, Hresstan) now find themselves in.

Noises. Footsteps. He turns and sees his companions enter the stairwell. Suddenly, in the presence of his friends, he is the unflappable Nivek again. He wipes bloody Wasp on his borrowed cloak and stands.

Nodding to his companions, he says "Kelthas, Hresstan, we're in a spot of trouble."

With that, he steps away from the corpse on the ground so that Ilsbert's face is clearly visible.

"How are we going to explain this to Gregos?"

The big man walks in, a puzzled look on his face. A look at his friends' faces told him much. "So... from your less than happy expressions, I suspect that this dead stripling is the one you were protecting." He shakes his shaggy head in disgust. "Bah, 'tis almost enough to make a man swear off brothels!"

He squats down to study the area around the corpse with a professional eye. "I wasn't even headed for this place. I was crossing through the Plaza on my way to meet a prospective employer, when that Lycinia woman accosted me. Next thing I know, Nivek bursts in chasing a trollop." His eyes narrow for a moment. "Why did you kill him, if he had naught but an empty knife-hilt to match Hornet and Wasp?"
Q: Was the prospective employer Hresstan failed to meet none other than Gregos? (Unlikely) Yes!!
Q: Had he reason to suspect his wife was in danger? (50/50) Extreme no... Is he (Gregos) the source of her danger? (Unlikely) No... phew! One less complication
Before Nivek can answer, another ragged scream of pain rings out from above the stairs. The three swordsmen stand frozen for a moment, as the shrill sounds of agony fade.

“By the Red God, Mog and Death himself!” Kelthas says, brandishing his weapon and shield. “I know not what madness rules this place, but I say we put an end to it.”

Without waiting for a response, Kelthas turns and races up the stairs.
