Beyond Sanctuary: Kandara Tanum

The fifth character in my Beyond Sanctuary Mythic GME Old School Sandbox game. Fortunately, she is a mage (I was getting a little worried that I wouldn't roll a magic-user).

Kandara Tanum
Attractive human woman of dark complexion with long, light brown hair. Partial to gold jewelry and dark wizard's robes. Never seen without her trusty familiar, Lanumas.

Cliches: Adventuring Wizard of the Hidden Vale [4], Well-travelled Aristocrat from the Western Coast (1).

Lanumas: Magical Owl Familiar (3).

Languages: Fluent in every dialect of the Western Principalities, the language of the Southern Alliance, the Common Tongue of the North Lands, several Elvish dialects, and the secret language of Dragons. May make a TN roll vs. Wizard or Well-travelled Aristocrat to speak others.

Lore: Carries a spellbook with the listed spells below. Note that if she loses dice to pumping her Wizard cliche then she may be restricted in what spells she may cast. If she fails a roll to cast a given spell, then it may not be attempted again until she rests and prepares spells anew.
  • Third Level (TN12): Fireball, Fly.
  • Second Level (TN9): ESP, Knock.
  • First Level (TN6): Read Magic, Find Familiar, Magic Missile, Protection from Evil, Sleep.
  • Various cantrips (TN3).
Tools: Spellbook, spell components, staff, dagger. Quills, ink.

Other Possessions: 12 gp, 8 sp. Fine wizards robes, undergarments, boots, change of clothes. Backpack, bedroll, winter blanket, 10 candles, paper for dungeon mapping. Week of trail rations, waterskin. Gold necklace (30 gp).

Adventuring Wizard of the Hidden Vale: Casting spells prepared from her spellbook; casting spells from scrolls; learning new spells and transcribing them into her spellbook; fighting with staff & dagger; being reasonably competent in a dungeon environment; being knowledgeable about arcane subjects; speaking arcane languages.

Well-travelled Aristocrat from the Western Coast: Speaking mundane languages; being knowledgeable of lands & cultures; knowing etiquette; courtly politics; riding a horse; falconry; composing poetry.

Magical Owl Familiar: Being a big-ass bird of prey; seeing great distances; conferring night-vision and superior hearing to Kandara; spying; communicating with Kandara; avoiding danger; carrying messages.

CHARACTER GENERATION & WORLD-BUILDING NOTES

Image
This image comes from the galleries at Project Offset. The larger image that this image is cropped from will also inspire the town of Sanctuary (the home base of the campaign). Like Hal Ptor, the character shown seems to come from southern lands (or at least have southern heritage). To mix things up, I'm going with the later option (see below). She definitely has an owl familiar (using the Sidekicks rules).

Name
Like Hal Ptor, I went with a Barsoomian name to represent her closer ties the cities of the Southern Alliance.

Backstory
The acknowledged bastard daughter of a minor West Coast noble and a Southern adventuress, Kandara was brought up with all the trapping aristocracy... including the best education available outside the Southern Cities. When he father finally had a legitimate heir, she left home to study magic at the Scholomance of the Hidden Vale. Graduating near the top of her class, she turned to a life of adventure when she met Hal Ptor.

Setting
The Western Principalities and the Scholomance of the Hidden Vale are well to the south-west of the campaign's starting area.
